The Psalms are listed in order of appearance, followed by author (if known), context of the Psalm’s writing (description of context that appear in the Biblical text before some Psalms are quoted), and the Old Testament reading it appears after.
Chronologically, Moses wrote the first two Psalms (90 & 91), and then David wrote the next thirty-three. After David’s kingdom was established in Jerusalem, we note other authors, such as Heman, Asaph, Ethan, and the sons of Korah. Heman and Asaph were brothers, descended from Moses’ uncle, a son of Kohath, a son of Levi, and they were appointed as singers by King David (1 Chronicles 6). The sons of Korah were also, like Moses, Aaron, Heman, and Asaph, descended from Kohath, son of Levi. Ethan, also appointed by David as a singer, was a descendant of Merari, son of Levi (1 Chronicles 15:17).
Note the Psalms start with Moses and end with the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem after the return from exile in Babylon.

Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling. Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!”

But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head….I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God!…You have shattered the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the LORD; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.”

O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception? Selah. But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him. Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the LORD. Many are saying, ‘Who will show us any good?’ Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O LORD!…In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety.”

You destroy those who speak falsehood….But as for me, by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house, At Your holy temple I will bow in reverence for You. O LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my foes….let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom….O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days….Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands.”

My God in His lovingkindness will meet me….Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; For the righteous God tries the hearts and minds. My shield is with God, Who saves the upright in heart. God is a righteous judge, And a God who has indignation every day. If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword.”

“In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed…For You are my rock and my fortress; For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me. You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength. Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have ransomed me, O LORD, God of truth….
I trust in the LORD. I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness, Because You have seen my affliction; You have known the troubles of my soul….Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress….But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD, I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in Your hand….Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; Save me in Your lovingkindness. Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I call upon You….How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You, Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of men! You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues….O love the LORD, all you His godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful And fully recompenses the proud doer. Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the LORD.”

O fear the LORD, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want….they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing. Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Who is the man who desires life And loves length of days that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry….The righteous cry, and the LORD hears And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all….The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.”

I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it, And I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.”
56, David, “when the Philistines seized him in Gath” (1 Samuel 21-24), Day 106
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?…You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?…This I know, that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, In the LORD, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?…I will render thank offerings to You. For You have delivered my soul from death.”

Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, For You have been my help, And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me….Everyone who swears by Him will glory, For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.”

“‘I love You, O LORD, my strength.’ The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies….For You save an afflicted people, But haughty eyes You abase….As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the LORD is tried; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him….You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your right hand upholds me….The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock; And exalted be the God of my salvation….I will give thanks to You among the nations, O LORD, And I will sing praises to Your name.”

But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope. My soul waits for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the LORD; For with the LORD there is lovingkindness, And with Him is abundant redemption.”

A Psalm of David”: “O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!…When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?…O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!”
9, David, during the war between the house of David and the house of Saul (2 Samuel 1-4), Day 112
“For the choir director; on Muth-labben. A Psalm of David”: “I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High….You have maintained my just cause; You have sat on the throne judging righteously….the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment, And He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity. The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble; And those who know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You….He does not forget the cry of the afflicted….the needy will not always be forgotten, Nor the hope of the afflicted perish forever. Arise, O LORD, do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged before You. Put them in fear, O LORD; Let the nations know that they are but men.”

“The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek Him.
All his thoughts are, ‘There is no God.’…The unfortunate commits himself to You; You have been the helper of the orphan. Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer, Seek out his wickedness until You find none. The LORD is King forever and ever….O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror.”

The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one….When the LORD restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.”

I said to the LORD, ‘You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.’…I will bless the LORD who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken…..You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
19, David, during the war between the house of David and the house of Saul (2 Samuel 1-4), Day 112
“For the choir director. A Psalm of David”: “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands….The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether….by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.”

“For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah”: “O God, we have heard with our ears, Our fathers have told us The work that You did in their days, In the days of old….Through You we will push back our adversaries; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, Nor will my sword save me….In God we have boasted all day long, And we will give thanks to Your name forever….If we had forgotten the name of our God Or extended our hands to a strange god, Would not God find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart….Rise up, be our help, And redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.”
45, sons of Korah, establishment of David's kingdom (1 Chronicles 1-2), Day 114

A Song of Love”: “I address my verses to the King….God has blessed You forever….Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your fellows….I will cause Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the peoples will give You thanks forever and ever.”

A Psalm of the sons of Korah”: “Why should I fear in days of adversity, When the iniquity of my foes surrounds me, Even those who trust in their wealth And boast in the abundance of their riches?…man in his pomp will not endure; He is like the beasts that perish. This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who approve their words….God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For He will receive me….Man in his pomp, yet without understanding, Is like the beasts that perish.”
84, sons of Korah, establishment of David's kingdom (1 Chronicles 1-2), Day 114
“For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah”: “How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts! My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God….For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, How blessed is the man who trusts in You!”
85, sons of Korah, establishment of David's kingdom (1 Chronicles 1-2), Day 114
“For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah”: “I will hear what God the LORD will say; For He will speak peace to His people, to His godly ones; But let them not turn back to folly. 73, Asaph, after the genealogies at the time of David (1 Chronicles 3-5), Day 116
“A Psalm of Asaph”: “Surely God is good to Israel, To those who are pure in heart! But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling, My steps had almost slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant As I saw the prosperity of the wicked….Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure And washed my hands in innocence; For I have been stricken all day long And chastened every morning. If I had said, ‘I will speak thus,’ Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children. When I pondered to understand this, It was troublesome in my sight Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end….When my heart was embittered And I was pierced within, Then I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before You….Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For, behold, those who are far from You will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You. But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.”
77, Asaph, after the genealogies at the time of David (1 Chronicles 3-5), Day 116
“For the choir director; according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph”: “My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me. In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord….Has God forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion?…Then I said, ‘It is my grief, That the right hand of the Most High has changed.’ I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds. Your way, O God, is holy; What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples. You have by Your power redeemed Your people.”
78, Asaph, after the genealogies at the time of David (1 Chronicles 3-5), Day 116
“A Maskil of Asaph”: “I will utter dark sayings of old, Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. We will not conceal them from their children, But tell to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done. For He established a testimony in Jacob And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers That they should teach them to their children, That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, That they may arise and tell them to their children, That they should put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments, And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God….a fire was kindled against Jacob And anger also mounted against Israel, Because they did not believe in God And did not trust in His salvation….In spite of all this they still sinned And did not believe in His wonderful works….He, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; And often He restrained His anger And did not arouse all His wrath. Thus He remembered that they were but flesh, A wind that passes and does not return….Again and again they tempted God, And pained the Holy One of Israel….they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God And did not keep His testimonies, But turned back and acted treacherously like their fathers….He abandoned the dwelling place at Shiloh….He also rejected the tent of Joseph, And did not choose the tribe of Ephraim, But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which He loved. And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has founded forever. He also chose David His servant And took him from the sheepfolds; From the care of the ewes with suckling lambs He brought him To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them with his skillful hands.”
81, Asaph, after the genealogies at the time of David (1 Chronicles 6), Day 118
“For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph”: “‘Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would listen to Me! Let there be no strange god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god. Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways! I would quickly subdue their enemies And turn My hand against their adversaries. Those who hate the LORD would pretend obedience to Him, And their time of punishment would be forever.’”
88, Heman, after the genealogies at the time of David (1 Chronicles 6), Day 118
“A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director; according to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite”: “O LORD, the God of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before You. Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry! For my soul has had enough troubles, And my life has drawn near to Sheol….But I, O LORD, have cried out to You for help, And in the morning my prayer comes before You.”
92, unknown, after the genealogies at the time of David (1 Chronicles 6), Day 118
“A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day”: “It is good to give thanks to the LORD And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning And Your faithfulness by night….For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands. How great are Your works, O LORD! Your thoughts are very deep. A senseless man has no knowledge, Nor does a stupid man understand this: That when the wicked sprouted up like grass And all who did iniquity flourished, It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore….The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree….To declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”
93, unknown, after the genealogies at the time of David (1 Chronicles 6), Day 118
“The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting….The LORD on high is mighty. Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O LORD, forevermore.”
102, unknown, after the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, and establishment of David's kingdom (1 Chronicles 7-10), Day 120
“A Prayer of the Afflicted when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the LORD”: “Hear my prayer, O LORD! And let my cry for help come to You. You will arise and have compassion on Zion….So the nations will fear the name of the LORD And all the kings of the earth Your glory….He has regarded the prayer of the destitute And has not despised their prayer. This will be written for the generation to come, That a people yet to be created may praise the LORD….That men may tell of the name of the LORD in Zion And His praise in Jerusalem, When the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the LORD….You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end. The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You.’”
103, David, after the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, and establishment of David's kingdom (1 Chronicles 7-10), Day 120
“A Psalm of David”: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name….And forget none of His benefits Who pardons all your iniquities….The LORD performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel. The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him….the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts to do them. The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all. Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will. Bless the LORD, all you works of His, In all places of His dominion; Bless the LORD, O my soul!”
104, unknown, after the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, and establishment of David's kingdom (1 Chronicles 7-10), Day 120
“Bless the LORD, O my soul! He established the earth….The waters were standing above the mountains. At Your rebuke they fled….You set a boundary that they may not pass over, So that they will not return to cover the earth….The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works. He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, And vegetation for the labor of man, So that he may bring forth food from the earth….He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the place of its setting….O LORD, how many are Your works In wisdom You have made them all….You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the ground. Let the glory of the LORD endure forever; Let the LORD be glad in His works….I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD. Let sinners be consumed from the earth And let the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!”
133, David, after he was made king over all Israel; "A Song of Ascents" (2 Samuel 5:1-10, 1 Chronicles 11-12), Day 122
“A Song of Ascents, of David”: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity!”
106, unknown, after David was made king over all Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-10, 1 Chronicles 11-12), Day 123
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting….How blessed are those who keep justice, Who practice righteousness at all times!…We have sinned like our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly….He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them….Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. They quickly forgot His works….They made a calf in Horeb And worshiped a molten image. Thus they exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass….Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him….Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe in His word….Therefore He swore to them That He would cast them down in the wilderness, And that He would cast their seed among the nations And scatter them in the lands. They joined themselves also to Baal-peor, And ate sacrifices offered to the dead. Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds….Phinehas stood up and interposed, And so the plague was stayed. And it was reckoned to him for righteousness, To all generations forever. They also provoked Him to wrath at the waters of Meribah, So that it went hard with Moses on their account; Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips. They did not destroy the peoples, As the LORD commanded them, But they mingled with the nations And learned their practices, And served their idols, Which became a snare to them. They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons, And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan….He gave them into the hand of the nations, And those who hated them ruled over them….Many times He would deliver them; They, however, were rebellious in their counsel, And so sank down in their iniquity. Nevertheless He looked upon their distress When He heard their cry; And He remembered His covenant for their sake, And relented according to the greatness of His lovingkindness….Save us, O LORD our God, And gather us from among the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name And glory in Your praise. Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, ‘Amen.’ Praise the LORD!”
107, unknown, after David was made king over all Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-10, 1 Chronicles 11-12), Day 123
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary….they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses. He led them also by a straight way….Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!…There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains, Because they had rebelled against the words of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High. Therefore He humbled their heart….Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses….Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!…Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted….Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!…He sets the needy securely on high away from affliction, And makes his families like a flock. The upright see it and are glad; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth. Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, And consider the lovingkindnesses of the LORD.”
Psalm 1
Psalm 2
15, David, after David brought the ark to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 5:11-6, 1 Chronicles 13-16), Day 125
“A Psalm of David”: “O LORD, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor takes up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, But who honors those who fear the LORD; He swears to his own hurt and does not change; He does not put out his money at interest, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.”
22, David, after David brought the ark to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 5:11-6, 1 Chronicles 13-16), Day 125
“For the choir director; upon Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David”: “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?…Yet You are holy….But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people. All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, ‘Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.’…I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death….They pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots….He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard….The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever! All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations will worship before You. For the kingdom is the LORD’S And He rules over the nations.”

“A Psalm of David”: “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

“For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song”: “A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, Is God in His holy habitation. God makes a home for the lonely; He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land….You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men, Even among the rebellious also, that the LORD God may dwell there. Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, The God who is our salvation. Selah. God is to us a God of deliverances; And to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death….Because of Your temple at Jerusalem Kings will bring gifts to You….Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth, Sing praises to the Lord, Selah. To Him who rides upon the highest heavens, which are from ancient times; Behold, He speaks forth with His voice, a mighty voice. Ascribe strength to God; His majesty is over Israel And His strength is in the skies. O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuary. The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people. Blessed be God!”
89, Ethan, after David brought the ark to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 5:11-6, 1 Chronicles 13-16), Day 125
“A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite”: “I will sing of the lovingkindness of the LORD forever; To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth….Once You spoke in vision to Your godly ones, And said, ‘I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. I have found David My servant; With My holy oil I have anointed him, With whom My hand will be established; My arm also will strengthen him….He will cry to Me, “You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.”…If his sons forsake My law And do not walk in My judgments, If they violate My statutes And do not keep My commandments, Then I will punish their transgression with the rod And their iniquity with stripes. But I will not break off My lovingkindness from him, Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness. My covenant I will not violate, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips. Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David. His descendants shall endure forever And his throne as the sun before Me….Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants; How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples, With which Your enemies have reproached, O LORD, With which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed. Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.”

Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens….Say among the nations, ‘The LORD reigns; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity.’…For He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness And the peoples in His faithfulness.”

“Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad. Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. Remember His wonders which He has done, His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth….He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, Saying, ‘To you I will give the land of Canaan As the portion of your inheritance,’…He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes: ‘Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.’…He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. They afflicted his feet with fetters, He himself was laid in irons; Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him….Israel also came into Egypt; Thus Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. And He caused His people to be very fruitful, And made them stronger than their adversaries. He turned their heart to hate His people, To deal craftily with His servants. He sent Moses His servant, And Aaron, whom He had chosen. They performed His wondrous acts among them….Then He brought them out with silver and gold, And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled….For He remembered His holy word With Abraham His servant; And He brought forth His people with joy, His chosen ones with a joyful shout. He gave them also the lands of the nations, That they might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor, So that they might keep His statutes And observe His laws, Praise the LORD!”

The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: ‘Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne. If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever.’ For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. ‘This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread. Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy. There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed. His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine.’”

The counsel of the LORD stands forever….Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD….Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O LORD, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You.”

For it flatters him in his own eyes Concerning the discovery of his iniquity and the hatred of it. The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good. He plans wickedness upon his bed; He sets himself on a path that is not good; He does not despise evil….Let not the foot of pride come upon me, And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.”

For you hate discipline, And you cast My words behind you….These things you have done and I kept silence; You thought that I was just like you; I will reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes….He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me; And to him who orders his way aright I shall show the salvation of God.’”

May those who wait for You not be ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel, Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Dishonor has covered my face. I have become estranged from my brothers And an alien to my mother’s sons. For zeal for Your house has consumed me, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me….But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Your lovingkindness, Answer me with Your saving truth. Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink; May I be delivered from my foes and from the deep waters. May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit shut its mouth on me. Answer me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me, And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly. Oh draw near to my soul and redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies! You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; All my adversaries are before You. Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, And for comforters, but I found none. They also gave me gall for my food And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink….they have persecuted him whom You Yourself have smitten, And they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded….I am afflicted and in pain; May Your salvation, O God, set me securely on high. I will praise the name of God with song And magnify Him with thanksgiving….You who seek God, let your heart revive. For the LORD hears the needy And does not despise His who are prisoners….God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, That they may dwell there and possess it. Do not cast me away from Your presence And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit. Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; And give heed to the voice of my supplications!…You alone are God. Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name….Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth….Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.”

They speak falsehood to one another; With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak….‘Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise,’ says the LORD; ‘I will set him in the safety for which he longs.’ The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times….The wicked strut about on every side When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.”

Because they do not regard the works of the LORD Nor the deeds of His hands, He will tear them down and not build them up….The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him. My heart is in anguish within me, And the terrors of death have fallen upon me. Fear and trembling come upon me, And horror has overwhelmed me….Confuse, O Lord, divide their tongues, For I have seen violence and strife in the city. Day and night they go around her upon her walls, And iniquity and mischief are in her midst. Destruction is in her midst; Oppression and deceit do not depart from her streets….As for me, I shall call upon God, And the LORD will save me….He will hear my voice. He will redeem my soul in peace from the battle which is against me….Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken….Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. Then I said, ‘Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart.’…My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see; They are more numerous than the hairs of my head, And my heart has failed me. Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; Make haste, O LORD, to help me….Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let those who love Your salvation say continually, ‘The LORD be magnified!’ Since I am afflicted and needy, Let the Lord be mindful of me. Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us….Do not trust in oppression And do not vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them. Once God has spoken; Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God; And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord, For You recompense a man according to his work.”

For You have rescued my soul from death, My eyes from tears, My feet from stumbling….What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me? Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it….Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him….Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. For evildoers will be cut off….Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more….the arms of the wicked will be broken, But the LORD sustains the righteous. The LORD knows the days of the blameless, And their inheritance will be forever….The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous is gracious and gives….The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand….Depart from evil and do good, So you will abide forever. For the LORD loves justice And does not forsake His godly ones….The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip….the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in time of trouble. He who formed the eye, does He not see? He who chastens the nations, will He not rebuke, Even He who teaches man knowledge? The LORD knows the thoughts of man, That they are a mere breath. Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, And whom You teach out of Your law; That You may grant him relief from the days of adversity, Until a pit is dug for the wicked….For judgment will again be righteous, And all the upright in heart will follow it….When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul….the LORD has been my stronghold, And my God the rock of my refuge.”

How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, Who seek Him with all their heart….How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word….Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You….Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law…..My soul cleaves to the dust; Revive me according to Your word….Establish Your word to Your servant, As that which produces reverence for You….I will walk at liberty, For I seek Your precepts. I will also speak of Your testimonies before kings And shall not be ashamed…..This is my comfort in my affliction, That Your word has revived me…..I sought Your favor with all my heart; Be gracious to me according to Your word….I am a companion of all those who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts. The earth is full of Your lovingkindness, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes….Teach me good discernment and knowledge, For I believe in Your commandments….You are good and do good; Teach me Your statutes….It is good for me that I was afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes….Your hands made me and fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments….I know, O LORD, that Your judgments are righteous, And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me….When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?…But as for me, I did not forsake Your precepts. Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth. Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven….If Your law had not been my delight, Then I would have perished in my affliction….How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path….I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word….You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word….It is time for the LORD to act, For they have broken Your law….I hate every false way….The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple….Turn to me and be gracious to me, After Your manner with those who love Your name. Make Your face shine upon Your servant, And teach me Your statutes….Your word is very pure, Therefore Your servant loves it….Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth….My eyes anticipate the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word….You are near, O LORD, And all Your commandments are truth….Salvation is far from the wicked, For they do not seek Your statutes. May he judge Your people with righteousness And Your afflicted with justice….May he vindicate the afflicted of the people, Save the children of the needy And crush the oppressor. Let them fear You while the sun endures, And as long as the moon, throughout all generations….In his days may the righteous flourish, And abundance of peace till the moon is no more. May he also rule from sea to sea And from the River to the ends of the earth….For he will deliver the needy when he cries for help, The afflicted also, and him who has no helper. He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And the lives of the needy he will save. He will rescue their life from oppression and violence, And their blood will be precious in his sight….May his name endure forever; May his name increase as long as the sun shines; And let men bless themselves by him; Let all nations call him blessed. Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders. And blessed be His glorious name forever; And may the whole earth be filled with His glory. The LORD sets the prisoners free.
