The history of Israel according to Stephen the martyr
Acts 7 is a helpful read for those wanting a short synopsis
Stephen covers God directing Abraham from Mesopotamia to Haran to the land he promised him and his descendants, after their mistreatment in a foreign land for 400 years. He discusses the covenant of circumcision, Abraham becoming the father of Isaac, Isaac becoming the father of Jacob, Jacob becoming the father of the 12 patriarchs, and then Joseph’s brothers selling him into slavery in Egypt. He discusses the favor Joseph received in Egypt, enabling his whole family, 75 persons, to move there and be protected during famine. He discusses Moses being raised for 40 years in Pharoah’s house, until he had to flee to Midian for killing an Egyptian who was mistreating an Israelite. He discusses God appearing to Moses in the burning bush 40 years later, and sending him as ruler, judge, and prophet to lead His people out of Egypt and in the desert for 40 years, receiving the oracles of God. He discusses the people’s disobedience and their worshiping other Gods, even in the wilderness on their journey. Stephen’s accusations regarding the further disobedience of the people of Israel, especially its religious leaders, leads to his stoning, while he prays for mercy for those who kill him.
Thank you. Excellent. I just finished "The Life Of Moses" by James Montgomery Boyce - Amazing book that covers, through Scripture commentary on the first 5 books of the Bible, the life of Moses and the nation of Israel. Peace.
